How to Assess 21st-Century Literacy Skills
How to Assess 21st-Century Literacy Skills
The question for 21st century literacy is how are they meant to be assessed, the 21st Century measure of success are as follows:
· Well Being
· Perseverance
· Grit
· Tenacity
· Growth Mindset
As an educator, these skills are hard to grade on a rubric, checklist, or any type of formative assessment. These skills can only be demonstrated through how students are observed by the teacher. This can be done through watching the students engage and be challenged through assignments that address and connect to 21st century literacy. A teacher can assess these skill through generating assignments that require students to display these traits. To assess success such as perseverance, grit, and tenacity, a teacher can observe how a student reacts to challenging assignments that are presented to them though their ability to work through them. These skills can be assessed through summative assessment to gage critical thinking or through a series of problem solving activities. Provided below is a document outlining different techniques to assess these literacy skills.
